My name is Ahmed, a tour guide from the Bahariya Oasis, which is one of the five oases in the Western Desert of Egypt. I was born in this oasis from a Bedouin family that works in the field of safari trips and camping in all the deserts of Egypt. I was born and raised here and became aware of our ancient primitive life and cultures. I am a son of the desert, raised on the simplicity and harshness of life at the same time. I have not known the luxury of cities, but rather lived a life close to nature, adapting to the vagaries of the climate and its customs. The desert beauty is my school, and the sun and moon are my teachers. I learned the value of patience and perseverance from long journeys and from caring for animals. I learned self-reliance and quick thinking in the face of adversity. I am proud to be part of a culture rich in history and stories, a culture that has preserved its authentic traditions and customs despite the passage of time and the changes of the world. I feel a close connection to my land and my people, and to the value of generosity and hospitality, which is one of our most important principles.
I work in tourism since I was a child, and since 2004, I have been i drive organizing and preparing various trips ranging from one to 14 days deep into the desert. I have gained significant experience in organizing trips, as I find comfort and happiness in desert trips and in observing the ever-changing beauty of the desert throughout the day. I understand the importance of preserving the desert environment and strive to protect it from pollution and destruction. I dream of a future that preserves our heritage, enhances our authentic values, and adapts to the changes of the times
Bedouin authenticity and the story of man and nature
Living in the desert without any technology is a simple and natural lifestyle that brings people back to their roots. This lifestyle relies on basic survival skills such as: Self-reliance for food and water: gathering firewood, searching for natural water sources, hunting, or raising animals. Observing nature to determine time and weather: the sun and stars for directions, and the movement of wind and sand for weather forecasting. Sufficient means: living in tents or simple houses, cooking over fires, and using primitive tools. A quiet life free from the noise of technology: focusing on meditation, stillness, and listening to the sounds of nature. Despite its difficulties, this life provides great psychological comfort for many, as it relieves stress and anxiety, and provides clarity of mind.
From a young age, we have witnessed a great deal of what nature and the ancient Bedouin life contain, and from them we learned to recognize and identify the traces of birds, reptiles, or animals, the timing of planting vegetables and trees, and the timing of bird migration. We even acquired information about the sun, moon, stars, wind, and rain, as well as about some birds and animals such as camels, goats, cows, and foxes. This life gives you self-reliance.
